Ray Ray,, I had almost the exact same thing happen to me yesterday evening!!

Well, almost, it happened at Walmart and it didn't have an infused blond hair involved.
And it didn't involve food, but a outside rolling trash can that I had to stand in line forever to try and purchase in the Lawn and Garden checkout.
There was a checkout chick and 2 dudes involved that were "training" her on the register. Dontelle had to leave to go find a Manager with the keys to the register, and Marvelle, that was wearing the Viet Nam Boonie hat said he was too busy training Tracy to check me and my trash can out on one of the other 3 registers that were not being used!!
Maybe not the exact same thing, but I was Pissed!!!
What was your story about, again?

Umm, no. Hair will not melt at food temps. A boiling etouffee is not going to dissolve hair.

No. I would have preferred a "I'm sorry that happened - let us get you another order right out".... instead of "hey, frick the hair, but how about a $2.95 dessert".

I have to agree with this.
And I would have freaked finding a hair in my food .
I know it happens, but I don't think I should be offered a dessert which I usually don't eat, to make up for someone's DNA in my $17.00 dinner, with no apology.

You needn't have gone past that. I could have guessed the rest of your story without reading it.

Thats what you get for shopping there.

What's up with the standoff? If you wanted the dish replaced, why didn't you ask? If you wanted it taken off your bill, then say so. She was a server, not a psychic. Had you asked for either and then she declined, you could have politely asked to speak to her manager and made your request to him/her.

Hold the phone just a sec... First, like I said before, if I gotta axx for a replacement - or that it be taken off the bill - then screw it, it aint worth it. That should have been volunteered by the restaurant from the very gitgo.

And I wasnt mad, the reason for the stare down is that I was trying to convey to the server that a $2.95 dessert wasnt acceptable and I was waiting to hear what else she would offer. Her return silence and stare down was her way of saying she wasnt going to offer anything more than a $2.95 dessert.

And he who speaks first loses.

I tend to agree, I don't want to ask for a replacement of a spoiled dish.

If they don't satisfy your problem, you should speak up. Looks like you're the only one upset today.

Just don't return to this fine establishment.

I agree with your premise, however, some servers are numskulls and don't know to/have instant reaction to get a manager when something goes wrong, unless person at table is being alot to handle, chances were you were being very calm, she didn't see an irate person and thought she could "squash it" without having to bother her manager....

servers aren't paid to have the skills to handle situations that may arise when the food goes wrong, they are simply asked to get it to you timely and to your specs, if something is wrong with a dish (unclean food, bad food, uncooked) that specifically falls in the mgr's court, and if you didn't ask for a mgr, well then thats on you

just my opinion, if this happened again, instead of dealing with her on any level, calmly ask for the mgr, just my 2 cents

I know it didn't matter much to you, but I would have asked to speak to the manager. Not to get anyone in trouble, or to get a free meal, but in hopes it would stop it from happening again.

Maybe so, but why go that high? You'd think this establishment would minimally empower the servers with the at least the authority to say from the gitgo, "Holy shite, look at that long arse hair"! "Hot Damn I'm sorry about that, how bout we bring you a new plate, Mr Count Chocula".

But instead, the policy there is "If they complain about something, offer them a $2.95 dessert and hope they go away".

unfortunately, coming from food service (im no longer employed in that industry) many shift managers at all different "levels" of restaurants take the stance you just described, its sad, bc you did deserve a new plate, but many managers care more about how "low their comps were on that nite" rather than making sure you are geniunely happy when you left

I agree and maybe if people would stop being so accepting of a $2.95 dessert & speak to the manager when something like that happens, he would give such authority to them.

But let me add this-serving staff are usually just kids & looking at mine, he couldn't give a rats arse about what was found in your dinner.
