I was thinking about trying some of This and seeing what would happen. Anybody have any opinions of that fertilizer?
It's 32-0-10. I would put a "complete" like 13-13-13. Pull a soil sample too. Louisiana soils are often lacking in lime- you could need some.

The rye grass will choke out a lot of grass. Problem with it is it will also hold back your spring grass. There are ways to manage that but you're not set up.

Do this and you will have very few weeds to worry about next summer.

I'd also recommend a pre emergent in early to mid September for winter weeds. If you have weeds now you are probably going to have winter weeds greening up in February and early March.

If you are wanting grass to grow in the winter don't use the September Pre emergent.

This is why I use a fall pre emergent. All I care about is how my lawn looks in the summer. I'm too busy hunting to worry about the winter months

That is a small problem compared to my issues. Try dealing with half a yard of torpedo grass. Getting pretty close to nuking whole yard and starting over.

Unless anybody has any other ideas. I would love to hear em

Its in centupede

Thanks everyone for all the advice. It appears that everyone is saying the same thing, wait and dont kill what grass that I do have. I will follow Coastie's advice and see where that gets me.

Any brand suggestions?

I am sorry for all the questions, like I said, my first yard.

In the fall, rake out all that dead thatch a little before the St. Augustine grass goes into hibernation. Gonna be a pain in the rear, but do it.

Does a regular rake work? What about the dethatchers from HD?
