Last time I flew with a gun it was fairly painless, but that was like 10 or more years ago.
With the airlines now, its almost guaranteed they are going to lose something.
Im with everyone else, ship it to yourself.
And dont forget ammo.

Every airport is different. If you fly from NO, they wont touch it. They'll ask you if its unloaded and make you sign a form. There was an incident a few years back where one of the ticket reps was shot when they chambered a round. Not sure how NC handles it. I know Denver opens the case to make sure nothing is illegal but that's it. Than you sign the form. With all that, ship it FedEx and insure it!
