I love it because Bama fans can't stand it.
ETA: it's funny getting gumps say the bcs is supposed to be the two best teams
WHEN IN FACT the bcs says ZERO about best teams. It's says it was created for #1 to play # 2.

Bama has lost a game in November every season this decade. Yet they have two national titles in this decade despite "not taking care of business". Not just losses, but LATE losses. These were crippling to every team in college football history, except this era of Bama teams.

If Bama loses to LSU, they will have lost their biggest home game 4 years in a row.
Posted on 7/31/13 at 8:25 pm to Gardevoir
OSU only team in top 4 not previously played and beat by LSU that year.

The graphic foreshadowed the poor ratings too of the NC game.

Considering LSU had beat Oregon earlier (first game of season), then I pick Oregon. Oregon had more time to bounce back in the polls. However, if Okie State beats Iowa State, then it would have been hands down Oklahoma State.

I find it laughable that y'all are bringing up games from several years or even decades ago. Nick Saban hasn't peaked as a coach. He's much better now than he was say 5 years ago.
Y'all can continue to talk about 2011's legitimacy but don't question 2012. A loss is a loss, whether it's early or late. At least Alabama doesn't lose to bad teams nowadays, can LSU say the same? Your team has a great history, even in recent times, of playing unranked teams closely and even losing to them. The BCS selected the wrong pair of teams in 2003 and 2012 for the national championship, so that's a tie. If you want to mention playing a beatable Florida squad that struggled to beat non-AQ teams and Missouri, then that's pathetic. 2003 LSU and 2012 Alabama both lost home games. The difference is that LSU lost by 12 points against an average at best Florida squad while Alabama lost to a team that finished the regular season ranked #5.
2003 Florida and 2012 Michigan both finished the regular season ranked #24. Auburn was ranked when you beat them but lost 2 more games and finished the season unranked. 2003 Georgia finished the season ranked 7th in the AP while 2012 Georgia finished the season ranked 6th. 2003 Ole Miss finished the season ranked 13 while 2012 LSU finished ranked 14. Last but not least, there's the national championship games. LSU should have played U.S.C. and Alabama should have played someone other than Notre Dame.

The other teams didn't win, it's just because Bama just didn't play well those days.
I hope history really looks back at the 2011 BCS season as the worst ever and WOW, WTF happened here?!??!!
Alright, obviously most of us are biased, but the 2011 season national championship was not the biggest WTF. Nebraska 2001 and Oklahoma 2003 were much worse. A team that gets blown out in its conference championship game does not deserve a spot in the national championship. Conference championship game losses are as late as you can get. I know the BCS has changed since then, but it doesn't change the fact that it did a great disservice to other teams before Les Miles and 2011's team ever set foot on campus.

What does this have to do with Bama last year, I already have multiple posts in this thread arguing that Bama didn't deserve a shot at the title in 2011.
I was just being critical when he was putting them down for losing in November in a title year, when our Tigers have done the same.
Thanks. I've just pointed out the remarkable similarities between your 2003 season and our 2012 season. They're practically equal.

1. Having to beat the Big 12 champ is not "handing" LSU the title.
In 2003, you didn't even face the Big 12 champ, and you only won by 7!
Lord knows what would have happened if you faced 2003 USC.

2. FWIW 2011 Okie > 2012 ND. By a lot. Okie had a scary good offense.
Yeah, I can believe they were much greater; however, no one can definitively prove that they were better than Oregon or Alabama. Oklahoma State struggled to beat teams that were blown out by others. When you defense gives up 500+ yards in a game, then you can't just blame simple "mismatches". Oklahoma State had several high scoring affairs, and IIRC the Big 12 isn't known for elite defense and running the football.
With the 2011 LSU defense, you had no reason to fear any offense. What? You think Oklahoma State would (not could) score 21+ points against you and hold you to less? You faced much better defenses than Oklahoma State, and only one came close to shutting you down; the others didn't stand much of a chance regardless of quarterback play.
quote:
3. It'll sound weird saying this, but by logic LSU was the only team who deserved the NC at the end. Another bowl game was not necessary. No one else was undefeated. I know that's not realistic but it's logical.
What do you do in 2004 and 2010 when you have 3 undefeated teams? It's not possible to match up 3 teams in a game, and who gets to play whom first would be questioned in a 2 game playoff.

Sure. But I'm also not the Bama fan running my mouth off about how other teams spit the bit. My comment was about the hypocrisy of an Alabama fan criticizing another program for not taking care of business when Bama has failed to finish strong and yet been rewarded with two national titles.
Y'know. Goose. Gander. All of that.
There is no need for the insults; I'm not a Gump.
Did 2007 Ohio State finish the season strong? They lost their second to last regular season game and didn't play in a conference championship game.
Again, 2001 Nebraska and 2003 Oklahoma finished the season as weak as you can possibly get but still made the title game.
2006 Michigan wasn't given a rematch after losing a close one at Ohio State and rightfully so; it was the last game of their season. After the fact, Ohio State and them were blown out in their respective bowls. Why are people defending teams that were exposed in their bowl games? If Oklahoma State's loss to Iowa Sate and near misses with Texas A&M, Kansas State, and Stanford mean nothing to you guys, then I don't know what to say.

I couldn't care less about that poll. Just because the country wants something doesn't mean they should get it without hesitation. Do I need to provide real life examples of how this doesn't work?
2011 Final BCS Rankings
That number changed to 4 the following week and 5-loss Texas is irrelevant which leaves wins over Kansas State, Baylor, and Oklahoma. It's funny that you mention Baylor; they blew out Texas A&M. Alabama's lone good win — 2011 Arkansas — blew out Kansas State in the Cotton Bowl. When you look at Oklahoma's margin of victory, it might seem impressive. Just keep in mind that 1. They play in a conference not known for defense. 2. They lost a close one to a terrible team. What's worse: losing at home to 7-loss Texas Tech or losing on the road to 7-loss Iowa State? The difference is marginal.
What are you going to do: discredit 2011 Arkansas? You didn't take the lead against them until late in the second quarter, and that was after the Honey Badger gave your team the spark they needed to win the ball game. You only lead by a touchdown at the end of the 3rd. Congratulations on taking over the 4th quarter and running away with it, but don't act like you controlled the game from start to finish. No team that truly controls the whole game ever gets down 14-0.

It's easy to stand shitty images that support your stance.
I've heard about the BCS's "true purpose". Do you really want to turn this into a debate regarding the strength of the rankings? Must we go through the past 15 seasons and pick every team that we knew before or after the national championship had no business being in that game?

Nice stat. I can bring up LSU's bad losses in the same time span. I know some of you consider Alabama's November home losses the past 3 seasons to be pathetic. LSU isn't pathetic, but you've got plenty of more ugly wins and pathetic losses than Alabama in the same time span. Let's not go there. Nice choice of time frame. What happens if we go back to 2009? 2008? Right, it doesn't make LSU look so good, so we'll just ignore those seasons because they support an Alabama fan's argument.

We beat Bama in the regular season. On the road. That should've counted. Lucky for you, it didn't. It was still a dumb match up.
One team wins the division and the conference.
The other team, in the same division, does neither and is also beaten on the road.
But they still get to the national championship game. That's BS. It wouldn't happen to any other team.
I guess the games during the season only kinda count, if you're Bama, at least. Right?
ETA: Not trying to be a jerk but it makes no sense. Not trying to dump on you personally.
I apologize if I ticked you off.

Please answer this question honestly: if Alabama wins the close game in Tuscaloosa and all other game outcomes hold (...and Alabama beats Georgia), does LSU get into the BCSCG?
