I don't really consider it to be a rivalry, just 5 recent years of premier college football.
You'll find most Most Bama fans respect LSU as a near equal foe, unlike Auburn their true rival.
I remember the 15 years of Bama irrelevancy before 2008 when UF felt like much more of a rival.
Oh the beatings that were endured.

Bama has won 3 out of the last 4 NC's.. theyve done it while beating us or not in the regular season. We on the other hand haven't won a NC in 6 years.

This thread is homerism at its finest.

Problem is, you can lose that game and still play for it all...

LSU is Arkansas' rival. Arkansas believes that LSU holds them on a high "rivalry" pedestal as well. This is a made up for TV rivalry that doesn't exist but you can always rest assured that typically Arky's best game of the year is against LSU and you can also bet that LSU will sleep walk through this game. I'm hoping to get aTm eventually on Thanksgiving and force the Hogs to come up with another rival gimmick as corny as the Boot.

Please explain... the road to the NC game, recently at least, has had to go through the LSU/Bama game. How is acknowledging that fact homerism?

Ask any Bama fan if LSU is a rivalry. I would bet 90% of them would say "no" as well.

Most of my Bama friends think of LSU as "Just another tough game". I tend to agree with them on this. We'll never be as important as Auburn is to them.

This game has had and will continue to have major SEC and NC implications until at least one of the coaches retires. Both schools have the tradition, talent, and fan base to make this rivalry one that everybody in the country tunes in for and I think it's about to that point.

It's really only been NC level significant in 2011 and I guess maybe 2012 but I just don't feel like we were a NC team even if we hang on and beat them last year.

Anyone that thinks it's a given we beat UGA last year is dumb.

And sure everyone tunes in but games like Oregon/Stanford, USC/Oregon, Florida/Georgia get TV sets on too and less recently ND/USC, UT/OU and OSU/Michigan had just as much if not bigger title implications.

It's a great matchup and juicy given the Saban history but not really any more significant than any number of other late season matchups.

And obviously A&M Bama will break viewing records this year I would think.

I've got a feeling BAMA comes in there and slaughters TAMU.

Bama won 3 NC recently, during those NC years twice they beat us once they didnt. They also beat us in 2010 but Auburn won the NC. We havent won the NC in 5 years even though we've beaten Bama twice.

That's how.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit.

I think they're both being way overhyped. Bama's OL has been what set them apart the past few years. It was the best OL unit I've ever seen in college.

Very interested to see if AJ can maintain his level of play without a brick wall in front of him.

Unfortunately I don't think it matters much. They both play 2 game schedules and are still miles ahead of the other 10 on their schedule because with only one 3 game stretch of SEC foes only one of which is on the road, they just can't get worn down or caught looking ahead in a trap game.

With LSU being the only other potential loss, the winner of that game makes it to Atlanta at 11-1 at worst.

Georgia beats either in the SECCG imo.

In the "current" status of college football it is without a doubt the biggest, most important and has been the most relevant rivalry over the past decade as the implications from the game has usually been BCS and NC games for the winner. Those facts can't be denied.

Me???

I said they're being way overhyped and won't be the same without AJ and would lose to Georgia IF they make it to ATL???

I'd say huge fricking exaggeration.

Bama was never even a factor on the NC scene until 5 years ago in 08, and at that point LSU wasn't.

Bama/Florida was the big SEC draw in 08 and 09.

The LSU Bama game was nothing more than a juicy soap opera story about Saban until 2011.

That's 2 years with NC type ramifications for both teams going into the game. BFD.

I not only think you're wrong, but I think the games you compared to LSU/Bama are quite comical. The only one that is even close is OSU/MICH 06 and maybe ND/USC last year.

Also, some of you are taking the term rivalry way to literal. I'm not saying we are forcing a rivalry game with Bama, just that the game itself is far more important then any other of the so called important rivalry games have been since '06'.

2007: great game, title implications for LSU
2008: even better game, major title implications for Bama to win first title since 90's, Florida played spoiler
2009: Great game, same as above, Bama pulls through to win ship
2010: bit of a moot point, both teams really playing for pride on that one. No title impact
2011: Self explanatory
2012: Self explanatory

I'm saying that more has relied on this single game in terms of the NC for either team, not necessarily both, then any other rivalry game in the country the last 5 or so years. Therefore, what I would say is the most important game in CFB currently.

I definitely believe LSU fans are trying to force a rivalry with BAMA that will never happen. It will never trump Auburn or Tennessee in their eyes. The better statement would be to say that the LSU/UA game has been a key component in deciding who wins the SECW since the 07 season.
