Okay, this is hindsight and unfair.
Brees was trending upwards in his contract year with a 1st round pick breathing down his neck, yes, but he also blew out his shoulder that year so the decison was made for them. 32 out of 32 teams would have made the exact same decision.
Its like me saying the Patriots should have drafted a TE last year because of the Aaron Hernandez situation.

I'm speaking after the fact. I don't think he was a failure as a GM because he traded brees. I just think had he kept him and brees still performed at a high level, he would still push for rivers to start.
Let me take a second. Rivers over brees was a smart decision, it turned out to be the wrong one, but that's life.
