What areas are best for you depends on different criteria.

1. Where will you be commuting to. This is important even in a little city like BR because you dont want to live in Zachary and work in South Baton Rouge and you don't want to live in Prairieville and work in North Baton Rouge.

2. Do you require a large yard?

3. Do you want to live "in the thick of things", or in a more urbanized area? Or do you prefer suburban neighborhoods and don't mind a commute?

4. Schools. Do you have children and if so, do you plan on sending them to private schools?

Also, check about flood zones/insurance before you buy.

Commuting to OLOL. It's only 20 miles from Walker to there. We commute 42 damn miles one way to Children's Hospital in downtown Dallas now. We want a big backyard. Have a yellow lab and 2 yo son. Probably wont send him to private school because of the cut in salary but from what we see right now, Walker has some high rated schools.
