On defense, the front 7 should be tough

They did lose the older Chatman. He got kicked out of the school. I know he has a younger brother that will probably start for them. But anytime you lose a 6'3'' 280 pound it hurts.

They really lacked the personnel for the spread without Brumfield

Gaines and Brumfield give them two guys that can break any play for a TD. Their spread will be good just because of the personnel. If they run their schemes well they will be really dangerous.

I don't normally disagree with you but I have to disagree with you on this kid. I think daddy is the only reason Sears keeps him on the field. Unless the kid blew up over the summer he is only an average high school player IMO.

Hopefully the QB from last year has been working on his arm strength

I think its only a matter of time before Sears' son is the starter. Younger Sears is the best QB they have but he is just a sophomore.

I haven't heard about EXCL though? What's the story with that?

Sears switched off-season workout programs. (Word I got was that he blamed the lack of postseason success on that) That was a big advantage SPS had. Mandeville has only been going to XCEL for the last two years and look at their postseason results.

So he should be able to transfer to CHS or Hannan and be eligible right away, correct? Same as the Brumfield situation

Did not know this.. that really hurts them up front. Where will he be playing this fall now?

Most definitely. Unfortunately, they'll have to get the system down quickly, as they open up with Edna Karr in week 1. That game could get ugly (although, in the past, they've played Karr very well).

I didn't realize it was one of those situations. I just remember he was the only underclassman receiver that got significant playing time last year. Granted, the offensive line was the main problem last year.. it seemed like opposing defensive lines were in the QB's face almost immediately. There are some things not even Joe Dickens can fix on the offensive line (who, IMO, is as good an OL coach you can get in the HS level).

This will likely give away my identity, but my mother actually teaches at SPS and she said that Kenny is huge for his age. Before long, he'll be prototypical QB size. I agree with you that he will eventually be the starter.

Do you know which program they are using now?
