Had it 6 or so years ago. Got lucky. Friend had it and when I first started getting the symptoms I told her about it. Made me get to the clinic immediately. Got some prednisone in me. I got it but it could have been worse. Face started to sag on one side. Also one thing that was weird, tastes changed cuz some of the taste buds on one side of the tongue quit working. Some sweet stuff became sour. My mouth would suddenly get tired and my speech would start slurring, I'd sound more like a stroke victim. It lasted several weeks.
Massage therapy helped some. A good massage therapist can work those facial muscles and stimulate them. That helps alot. Seriously.

That's one of the most freaky things about this.
The most freaky thing is water leaking into my right eye when I'm taking a shower. The ability to seal your eyelids watertight is highly underrated.
eta: Thanks for all the information and advice!
