I know Ive read where some of you expressed interest in visiting one of the new Mobile, AL Publix stores. The new one at Airport/University is the best grocery store Mobile has ever had, even better than the Super Delchamps that was on Airport in the 90s. But anywho, Publix will be building a 67,000 sq ft store at Tillmans Corner and I-10 and have it opening late spring 2014... just thought Id give yall an update, and Costco summer 2014 at I-10/I-65 next to Hank Aaron stadium.
I was in that Publix just yesterday after work as it's about a mile from my house. They were giving away certain free items if you visited with each section manager and had them sign the sign in sheet they gave you as you came in. Lots of store promotions for this store's openings. The other Mobile location is also within a couple of miles of me (Hillcrest and Cottage Hill) but hasn't done the same promotions. I agree though, the new one on University and Airport is one of the nicest grocery stores I've ever been in. The Publix in Orange Beach by comparison seems to be one of their run of the mill stores. It's nice and has the standard good service but doesn't seem like anything special.
I could never figure out how a brand new "super" Publix AND the upcoming Whole Foods Market were going up along that stretch of Airport Boulevard until it dawned on me that pretty much everyone in the Spring Hill area has to come down to Airport for retail as it's practically nothing but neighborhoods with almost no retail in the area bordered by Airport Blvd/University Blvd/Spring Hill/Dauphin/and I-65 on the east
