Blue crab - dirt smell?

My parents gave us a few live crabs they caught out of the Rigolets this morning and they smelled like kinda off - like dirt I guess. I rinsed and boiled them, and they still kinda smell. Is there something wrong with them?

Never had stinky crabs. This thread would not do well on OT

No idea then, most crabs stink like dirt/mud to me and I've seen a lot of crabs.
As long as they were alive, they should be good to eat. Report back on the taste.

Went through the trouble of pickin em and they seem fine. Didn't get a ton of meat, but enough for about 4-5 crab cakes or a good bit of dip. That smell was just more rank than normal I guess.
