The Pels are more talented, yes, but the bench is still thin(Rivers is too critical). I wouldn't say they are a lock for the playoffs in the Western Conference with a healthy EG. You're talking about a team realistically finishing fourth or fifth (depending on the Mavs' moves) in their own division. The Warriors, Nuggets, Thunder,Clippers and I think the Blazers will all be right in the thick of things.

Even then you're looking at a 6-8 seed. Again, this all depends on AD. If he becomes a budding superstar, yes, we are a playoff team.

Actually, I think with the addition of Holiday and, presumably, the acquisition of at least one more contributor before the beginning of the season (you know this roster isn't set) that the Pelicans will have a bench that compares favorably with most teams. Seems to me their second unit should be a hell of a lot better than last season.

I think the West if overrated as far as having a bunch of top teams.

Regardless of what people say, OKC is the top dawg in the West (with a healthy RW). Then obviously you have the Spurs. Id throw LAC 3rd with Doc coming in.

After that? Memphis, Denver, GS,... those teams aren't far apart from the Houstons and New Orleans of the world.

I really believe the West is going to be wide open. A lot of the lower tier teams are getting better and will be ready to compete with the middle tier of teams next season. It could be anyone's game
