When was defensive three-second added?

were defensive players in the early 90s allowed to sit a big man in the paint? I cant remember.

Only asking bc i remember it being a lot harder to drive the ball to the basket back then, and im not a basketball rule expert

That's just not true. While it's true that slightly harder fouls were permitted in the that time period, the illegal defense rules were much stricter, and made isoing much easier. With today's zone hybrid schemes pioneered by Tom Thibodeau, teams who master those schemes with the right personnel can make it nearly impossible for even the best players to drive consistently. It's why the three ball is becoming so valuable in today's NBA, bc it's the only way to consistently beat those kinds of defenses.

Also defenses didn't even really get tough until the mid 90's with Riley's Knicks, go back and watch some of those famed Lakers/celtics series and see how much defense is played. The answer is none.
