Trying to think of the last time a 3 man back seemed to work in the EPL. Wasn't it pretty much a disaster for City last year the few times they tried it? Of course, if you commit to it rather than @#$@# around like they did, maybe it would work better. I'm not certain I would be ok risking points to learn it though. Every point is critical for our chances at top 4 this year.
And I also don't think Henderson on the right would provide enough width. Its ok with Johnson behind him since Johnson will provide the width (even if its head bangingly frustrating to watch).
I do think Henderson is carving out a secure spot for himself in the starting 11 though. May not last once Suarez comes back, but I bet he comes in for second half where we have a lead.

I think Henderson could provide the width if he knows that's his job. Of course that's not his best position, but he knows how to play within a role when necessary.
And with the way we play already, I definitely think a 3 man back line could work seeing as how it could drop into 5 man back line when sitting back on defense. With the way we run the 4 man back line, pushing the fullbacks up the pitch and Lucas dropping between the 2 centerbacks, it almost works as a 3 man back line there with Lucas stepping up to try and stop counters early. With the 3 man line, Sakho could provide the stopping since he's been good at tackling and intercepting in the past.
Tactically, it could be very diverse, but it would be very difficult to implement so soon, but I think there's some potential as TFTC said this is one of the few ways to get our best 11 on the pitch.

The season before last, Wigan went to a back three in February... Saved them from relegation that year.
Wigan had picked up 16 points from 24 games. From then, they won 27 points from 14 games
