He essentially did not.
From the British media:
I think Jozy wants another chance.

AZ Alkmaar and USA siirker Jozy Altidore is wanted by Sunderland, despite failing to impress in the British game when on loan to Hull four years ago.
I think Jozy wants another chance.

What? He played very well for Hull. He did everything you could do with a very poor team who couldn't provide him with the ball in dangerous situations. He was superb with his back towards goal. I watched nearly every game of his that season. He didn't score very often, but no one on that Hull team did. Even a proven goalscorer like Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink struggled. Hell the leading scorer for that team was Stephen Hunt who scored six goals. What Altidore did was to hold up the ball in up the field, and earn foul after foul. He was fouled 57 times that season. Again, he played very well given the circumstances.
Jozy wouldn't be the player he is today without that spell at Hull. But a lot of people look only to the result and not process, and thus miss the big picture when it comes to player development.
