Came up against some really good pitching and a huge ballpark.

See, I disagree with this completely. Neither of the guys LSU saw in Omaha were any better than most of the guys they faced in SEC play this year. They certainly werent on par with the two guys LSU faced in the Supers.

Think back to the game against Gray. LSU took the approach at the plate exactly how you are supposed to against a power pitcher. They worked a lot of counts full, made Gray throw pitches, and were disciplined in waiting for pitches to drive.

Go to the UCLA game. Guys throwing everything up in the zone. Next thing you see, all of our guys are chasing bad pitches, getting underneath high heat and popping out. How many first pitch strikes did we swing at? How many of our guys worked counts?

The size of the ballpark doesn't matter if you aren't trying to hit homeruns. Thats an awfully big outfield for balls to drop in. For a team that loaded the bases and hit single after single against OU, its not like they would've been doing something drastically different.

Edit: To answer the OP, I think Omaha is what was wrong. The team just took a bad approach at the plate and let the size of the stage get to them. Bregman is a freshman and played like a freshman. I'm really disappointed in Rhymes. You expect a little more out of a senior.

Its disappointing, but it shouldn't take away from a great season. I don't think we have to tell the team that they didnt reach the goal they wanted. Those boys didn't go to Omaha to go 0-2. IT happens. Its baseball.

Plutko would have started for any SEC team except maybe Vandy.

Thorton would have been a top reliever for just about any SEC team except maybe MSU and LSU.

I agree with you that our approach at the plate sucked like it has for a while, but to discount the level of competition in Omaha is a little off base IMO.

Agree on Gray....although Plutko and Thorton were easily on Overton's level if not above it.
