You would be okay at 5-7. There was girl I went to HS with that was like 5-2, maybe 5-3. She was really really good -- her game was textbook -- but just didn't quite have the firepower to be really really REALLY good. She played #4 for Va Tech, as I recall.

If you watched her play and then watched me play, you'd bet she would beat me, but the girl never took a set off me. My biggest asset in tennis is that I move well, and this just frustrated the crap out of her. She would end up going for too much on her shots and I would win every single set like 6-3 or 6-4.

Completely irrelevant, but i banged her a few times. Her dad was my tennis pro, and I'm pretty sure he figured that out. At one point he stopped being quite as friendly as he'd been the previous 10 years. Oh well.

I'm short for a dude, but it wasn't groundstrokes that held my game back. It was my serve. Which sucked and still sucks, and always ends up devolving int two second serves hit into the backhand side of their body every single damn time.

That was great in HS in WV. But at a level higher than that, you've gotta make the serve a weapon. Mine isn't.

I have a very good serve (for a woman). I have a lot of topspin with my forehand, decent backhand, and good slice from both wings, but I started playing wayyy too late (30s). I move well (I'm athletic built), and I'm fairly strong- I can take pace. I'm a tennis nerd. I take a lot of lessons (privates every week), so technique is important for me- I like to hit like a pro lol, but I started just too late. :-( I used to be a dancer, so I had no time for tennis. I've never been able to beat my hubby, and he plays one of two times a month. I've been playing 4-5 x week, for the past 6 years. It is mainly a mental thing with him (he has made my cry of anger on court lol), but women against men, really unless you are talking about a 4.0 women vs a 3.0 or lower man, there is just too much disparity.

I think Radwanska is about 5'7", and to me she plays the prettiest tennis of all the women. She has great technique and flawless shot selection, she is just too short and skinny. If she was 6' like Vika or 6'2" like Sharapova, she would have won many grand slams already. These days, the top women just over power her, because she is skinny built. I have very similar built. You cannot win grand slams these days with that built IMO, unless you have a LOT of luck.
