It annoys me sometimes when I start a thread on a forum and someone does what I going to do, but I'm doing it nevertheless.
What if you reversed your approach? Instead of buying what's basically a hunting rifle and having a second (expensive target shooting) stock, buy a factory F-class gun and have a second (inexpensive hunting stock).
Savage makes an F-Class factory gun that's received high praise.

When hunting season rolls around, swap out the target stock for an inexpensive Bell&Carlson. In the not to distant future, you'll prolly burn out the barrel on your target gun and need to rebarrel it. At that point, spend money on a premium barrel. In the meantime, you'll have had an opportunity to learn the basics of F-Class shooting w/o having to spend quite so much money. One could easily spend more money on a custom action alone than on the Savage complete gun. In addition, it may take a while for you to develope the necessary skills (including load development, wind doping, etc.) to be able to notice the difference between a $1400 action and a $1400 gun.....
