Tickets have been purchased. Worst case I'm driving 4 hrs, best case they add NO and I go twice. Anyone ever been to Bayou Music Center in Houston? Wondering how big it is compared to HOB or UNO

I may be in the minority, but I'm not overly impressed with the album. It just doesn't grab me in any way like some of the older albums did. It just doesn't have that edge. Josh needs to bring back the Desert Sessions to get some good, fresh material going.

You certainly are in the minority. Album is incredible.
I have come to the conclusion that this is their best album to date.
What album did you like best by QOTSA?
least( other than this)

That said, Them Crooked Vultures was between Songs for the Deaf and Rated R.

Why? I'm curious about this. So many people call it a great album, but I just don't get it. What makes it stand out?
I'm not saying it's a bad album. It's just not what I would ever consider a great album. I'm curious what earns it such high praise.

Era Vulgaris prooved to have some good songs , weak overall.
Love Rated R
Love Song for the deaf
Really love Lullabies
This album though takes the cake. It has a ton of things I really enjoy to hear in music such as: some trancy rock, psy-rock, blues, and darkness.
Some really well written songs structurally and lyrically.

I really enjoy Like Clockwork. I wouldn't call it my favorite though.
I'd rank them:
SFTD
Rate R
S/T
Tie between Era and Clockwork
Lullabies
All of their albums are great.

Missed them when they played Music Midtown in Atlanta but I just got tickets to the Columbia show

Like the album, but I can't put it over SFTD.

My two cents.

It is a tough one for me becuase I like everything they've put out.
1) SFTD - Hard. Raw. In your face. Plus you have Dave Grohl and Josh Homme collaborating AND Oliveri (HIGHLY underrated IMO) was still in the band. My man crush on Grohl probably contributes to it being my #1, but they were just firing on all cylinders around this time. The energy Grohl brought was great. The live shows were insane as well.
2A) Clockwork - Solid album. However, it lacks the energy I love about the band. I like it, but in the context of their discography it leaves me wanting a little more.
2B) Rated R - Great album.
Love all the rest too. Only one that is a little lacking IMO is Lullabies. Just wasn't quite the follow up to SFTD that I hoped for.

Noting wrong with your rank bro. We just have different ways to taste is all
I am in love with this CD. I'd love to get everyones opnion again in a few years.
I use to feel this way about SFTD... then as time went on Lullabies made me feel this way.... now I can already start to see how I will feel about this album.
Like Clockwork...
Lullabies
Rated R
TCV tied with SFTD
Self titled
Era Vulgaris(easily their weakest)
And I am glad to see I am not the only one who groups TCV in QOTSA albums. Basically is QOTSA

quote:SFTD was the perfect album, and perfect time to be a QOTSA fan. You had Grohl on drums, Oliveri on bass, and cameos vocals by Lanegan once again.
Like the album, but I can't put it over SFTD.
There were rumors that Oliveri was supposed to make his way back in the band again. They were a different (more raw stoner rock) band with him in it.

What I really liked about Rated R and SFTD was how Oliveri and Mark Lanegan had some lead vocal tracks. It was just so dynamic with those two thrown in the mix.

He had a role on this album. I think in the future he makes a return... just a hunch

This is something that lacks on this new album sorely. Just isn't a deal breaker for me.
I noticed when they play live that Mickey Shoes Shuman does some backing... particularly Oliveri old backing vocals. Troy also throws in some backing occasionally.
I cannot deny that Oliveri brought a different edge to the band. I just cannot admit that the bad was better with him. We can draw conclusions that him being axed from QOTSA was tied to the Kyuss beef and drugs. Who knows.
Certainly was no drop off with Alain Johannes or Mickey Shoes IMO
Its all good music so we all win!

Here's a good article on one of Homme's other bands, The Eagle of Death Metal.
LINK
An interesting note from the article indicates that we may not be waiting another 7 years for the next QOTSA album. In fact, we could have it within a year or so.
Anyone else annoyed that the Grammy's gave album of the year to Led Zeppelin for a live album? Such a joke.

Meanwhile, Homme recently revealed that his band will record the follow-up to 2013's '...Like Clockwork' later this year, commenting that the band have "more than enough songs" for a new LP. Asked if they'd be recording another album soon, Homme stated: "Absolutely. We have more than enough songs. We're booked 'til September, but after that we plan to jump in the studio and get going."

I never did care much for Eagles of Death Metal.
On the follow up to Like Clockwork...
I always thought bands should release things quicker.... keep that lighting in a bottle captured. Mars Volta is a perfect example of that analogy.
Oh and Homme on Portlandia LOLz
