im guessing a little less pressure than when he first went out on his own too, plus more experience creating an album instead of just a couple songs for one, all coupled with getting his own head straight is a big part.

with DBT a lot of his best was, yes while drinking, but when his life was in a fairly upward trajectory still. it seems like he is back in that upward trajectory.
