Guitarists—Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass. And while a lot of folks wouldn't consider this guy a jazz player, you should listen to Mose Allison's stuff from the late 50's and early 60's ... unless you already have.

Start with the piano. Bill Evans. Go with album "Portrait In Jazz". He went to Southeastern too so there is a Louisiana connection. Buried in Baton Rouge.
