I just started watching this. Does anyone else crack up when the Disney logo is played during the end credits after seeing drugs, sex, cursing, etc. I thought I was watching an HBO show at first before remembering it aired on ESPN. "Piss man's coming".

Yeah, i always forget that disney operates espn. Awesome series though. Sucks they only made one season. I have it on DVD, might need to break it out this long weekend.

The body double for Omar Gooding is laughable. When he takes his clothes off for the piss test, he is ripped. Omar is tubby. His double during the games is dark black too while he is lighter.

yeah, nothing like the star running back free basing in some drug dealer's home and also snorting a line off of some whore's titty.

I guess Mo Tibbs decided to play football in college after giving up his basketball career. Hello-der!

That show was ridiculous but addicting. The best part was when the gay wr punched his ex boyfriend in the bar.

outstanding show, rumor back in the day was they did not make another season bc the NFL pressured them about it.
Every time i watch Grimm I'm still waiting for them to call Hank, Leon guess the actor is forever typecast for me

great series, too bad the NFL used it's fist to tell ESPN to cut it.

Was this because it was eerily similar to the lives of actual NFL players?

I could understand because the NFL had leverage allowing ESPN NFL highlight access but why didn't a channel like HBO or Showtime pick it up?

HBO had Hard Knocks and Inside the NFL at the time and didn't want to lose those shows. Showtime wanted to get some sort of NFL programming (and eventually did when they took over Inside the NFL) and did not want to be blacklisted.
ESPN didn't want to risk the NFL blocking them from airing games once their deal was up.

I clearly remember Joe Theismann getting on the radio and crying like a spoiled brat saying "We don't want our world exposed to the public" which indicated the show was actually fairly accurate in its portrayal of all the crazy shite that happens.

Rumor? ESPN announced a new deal with the NFL simultaneously with the cancellation of Playmakers. Sportscenter even said as much.

I thought it sucked. Just as bad as Any Given Sunday. It was worse than The Program.
