Harris County Judge Ed Emmett told Sports Radio 610 this morning that the Astrodome would be renovated or demolished by Super Bowl L1.

I was brought up going to the Astrodome...Saw Nolan pitch there, saw the Love Ya Blue days with Earl, saw George Strait's first rodeo performance there......but it needs to go. I honestly wish they would tear it down, and build a nice amphitheater like the Woodlands with a park setting.

An amphitheater and hotel and restaurant area would be great there

They need to tear it down and just add more parking for Reliant and the CC down there, maybe put up a little "museum" of Astro dome memories or something.

No link or stats, but a caller this morning to the NFL channel on Sirius said that Houston is on the hook for like 40 mill regarding the Astrodome. I'n not sure what he was referencing. Do they still owe a mortgage on it or something?

Well those are two very fundamentally different courses of action.

Regardless of what they decide to do, I just hope they treat the enormous, cat-sized rats that have called it home in recent years in a humane manner.

I hope the powers that be just pretend it doesn't exist and do nothing with it.

I have lots of nostalgia fore the Astrodome but if they were able to tear down Yankee Stadium.....then perhaps the Astrodome would be better off that way.

Not long ago I found an awesome video that someone got with their camcorder of the last regular season game. He bounced around to all different parts of the stadium and was great to see all the old views. Glad I got to see the legendary scoreboard in action.

frick Bud Adams for removing the scoreboard
Astrodome scoreboard goes dark

definitely needs to be demolished, that would be the only solution I think...

I stayed at the hotel across from Reliant Center while working in Htown for a few weeks, back when Reliant was just built..

I was in awe at the great AstroDome of my youth, now just an tired lil tin can in contrast to the new megastadium across the lot.
