It made national news. The killer avoided the death penalty and still lives.
I haven't forgotten my friend. RIP Connie.

Is that the girl that lived near the golf course? Or maybe that girl committed suicide? Timber Trails is the neighborhood, I think?

Did the killer ever give a reason behind the crime?

Went to high school with her all 4 years. Beautiful girl taken from this world all too early. I will never forget that day. RIP

Infatuated stalker, did not like the brush off.
Coco - yes, she lived in Timber Trails, near the golf course.

We probably know each other - we certainly know a lot of the same people - I was 2 years behind.

Great post. It's good to be remembered. May she rest in peace.

I'm too young to remember it, but I do recall hearing people talk about it.

I am sure we do. My family still lives there. Connie was beautiful, a great singer, a wonderful friend. I was able to attend a couple high school dances with her as my date.

I remember her well. I was two years behind her. She was very nice. A beautiful cheerleader who even took time to talk to dorky little me one-on-one in the hallway with noone else around.

I think so, but I don't have access to his offender number, so I couldn't confirm it earlier this year. I think he would need a pardon, with his sentence, and Jindal has issued very, very few pardons for murderers.

quote:
Connie Smith, seventeen, was murdered on May 14, 1983 in Tioga, Louisiana. Bryan Brown, a twenty-one year old who lived in Miss Smith's neighborhood was indicted for the murder, convicted and sentenced to death.
quote:
After Bryan Brown was arrested and charged with the murder, he escaped from prison. Seven months later he surrendered to authorities in California and was brought back to Louisiana. Brown's escape, recapture and extradition increased the publicity and coverage of the case. Each time the case appeared in the paper, some version of Miss Smith's death and defendant's arrest, escape and re-arrest was rehashed. Readers were often reminded that Brown had been out on bond for an armed robbery charge at the time of the crime.

What was her younger brothers name?

Wow I must have been living under a rock. My birthday is may 14th, 1982. I went to Tioga high and still live in Pineville and have never heard about this! I'm going to ask around the office today. Some coworkers graduated Tioga around that time and probably knew her.

Two younger brothers, Spencer and Joel.

Based on one of the articles I read I'm guessing one of the brothers was around 8 when she passed? He'd still be a few years ahead of me.
