Just wondering if the Gulf Shrimp is a different species than what we have?
Yes, they are different. Right now, it is Brown shrimp season. The white shrimp are about to start moving in for there spawn. Brown season last to about the third week of July and white season opens around the first week of Aug. This is all inside waters.
The shrimp you are catching could be called rubyreds or something like that. I'm sure y'all have whites and browns too, but not as many.
Google Brown and white shrimp for pictures. Look very close to the heads at the swords. The browns have brown strips on each side of the swords.

Thanks Fishfighter,
Yep, we have the Whites, googled it. Never looked into them this seriously. I just enjoy catching and eating them and the benefits they bring to Bass and Reds fishing while they are running.
The St. Johns, is 310 miles long, flows north and is brackish here where I live in what is known as the lower basin. We catch flounder,Reds,Rays, Croakers ect. Fun place to live.
Oh! It appears the Whites begin their run in the Gulf pretty close to when they start in the St. Johns.![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Icondude.gif)
