I use this recipe, works pretty well:
One gallon whiskey, one gallon cherries, twelve cups of sugar. Place all in carafe.
Cheesecloth on top of carafe.
Let sit in a cool, dry place out of sunlight from end of June until beginning of October.
Get fizzled.
