I´m not referring to the actual FCB style of play, simply, bunkering with all effectives in the box and countering when and if possible, is not admired in the footballing world.

Yep.

Basically, if you're supposed to be one of the elite teams in the world, you don't need to counter-first. If you are a big club in a big league, there should be no reason for you to park the bus.

Why are you spending so much money on attacking players if you're going to do that? Why have one of the world's biggest wage bills and do that? These are the issues people had against Chelsea last year. Bunker and counter is supposed to be for those small clubs trying to survive an early round trip in the FA Cup or stay above the drop zone.

Fans want to see the beautiful game played at the highest level when you get to the biggest competitions. I want to see two teams go at each other, not one side plug away at ten men behind the ball when that same team has a good amount of money invested in playing attractive soccer/football (that was for you, Dandy).

Real Madrid fans like Dandy hate to see their team, with the Ozils and the Ronaldos and the Benzemas and the Di Marias, play counter-first. Now, elite teams should be able to construct a deadly counter attack when the opportunity arises, but it shouldn't be their gameplan.

Think of the Broncos with Tebow. Yeah, they won a playoff game with him. Somehow. It was an ugly half-season, and Tebow ugly chucked the ball around the yard against a depleted Pittsburgh defense for the overtime win. They schemed to win ugly.

But Denver didn't want to play like that. As much as the "survival" mode made for some dramatic football, it wasn't how they wanted to do things. So they go get one of the best QBs of all-time and play a better version of the game the next season.

It's a huge deal around the world to play attractive soccer. If you are one of the world's biggest clubs, you shouldn't have to resort to counter attack most of the time.

Chelsea fans will savor that UCL win. I'm not going to go as far and say that it was tainted. But I'm not a fan of the bunkering style...but, hey, it got the Blues the big one. And they don't do that this year, which is great. Hazard, Mata, Oscar, those guys deserve to play attacking football. It's what a big club should do...so when the time comes for you to play another big club, we get to see a better-looking match.

i for one think countering is quite entertaining. i seem to recall napoli was the darling of europe last year...

granted, i don't watch real a whole lot, but i'm not opposed to watching their pressing and quick counter-attacking style. its viscerally enjoyable to me, even if it is only so because of what i watch week in, week out (which is, if i may steal one of my old twitter jokes, as much penetration without finishing as a Sting sex tape)
