Backstory: sent by email from FIL in MO
A friend of mine went hunting today with a friend of his. He has a spot in Webster County that he has permission to hunt and he killed this bird this a.m. I have never seen a turkey colored quite like this one. They jumped it in a bottom field as as came off of a ridge, it flew and his friend wing shot it because he saw the beard hanging, only to find out it was a bearded hen. She weighed 15 lb and had a 7” beard. What a neat bird, thought I would share with it.

Never saw a turkey patterned like that. Beautiful. Did he take it to a biologist for identification? Id sure like to see more of them. I have the worst luck killing turkeys, thry get away from me every year, while my uncle kills two with one shot.

Pretty cool, I've only seen one smoke phase bird and that was during the Fall many years ago. You'll see them in grey and even in red sometimes...
