No one over 17 years of age has to pay anything if he or she wishes to keep a loaded handgun readily available in a car in the state of LA. That's the entire point I was making. Your driver's license reference is a red herring.

I do agree people should be paid for doing "checks and such" but I'm merely stating that LA's firearms laws are better.

My statement about the license was to jimjackandjose. He said that Alabama has a law that prevents people from defending themselves. I was merely pointing out that that was not the case. Anyone who can pass a background check can carry worry-free in their vehicle. If they can't pass it, do you really want them carrying in the first place? If the law says you must pass a background check, run 20 miles, and give the Sherrif a handjob, I'd say it was meant to prevent law abiding citizens from exercising their rights. That isn't the case, though.
