It's still directly out of reach if it's needed though. That's exactly what's so ridiculous about the law.

In LA, even without a permit, if the driver is of age there can be a handgun sitting on the passenger seat with no problems whatsoever.

Even though it's not hard to get a permit, I shouldn't have to pay 20 dollars to "be allowed" to have a readily accessible handgun for self defense. That's what I see wrong with the law.

I assume "of age" is 21 in Louisiana. I got my ccw permit at 19. Freedom MF'ers!

Though I agree with you, you know the govt. has a fee for everything. Did you fuss when you had to pay for a drivers license? It's the same thing. I don't like it any more than you do, but somebody has to pay for the people employed to run the checks and such.
