It's common in track to train to "peak" at certain meets. I'd expect Jeryl to "start" to peak for this meet, but I think somebody has mentioned he has an eye on upcoming national meets too.
I've always found the training methods interesting in track. It's a given that athletes can't give their "best" performances week-in, week-out and these days, they train for specific meets and if they compete in between, their times/jumps, etc., will be off peak.
There's a lesson to be learned there in football. That's why football teams play the Sun Belts and FCS teams. Athletes can't give you optimal performances every week. It's about getting them to peak for certain dates.

While most won't admit it, every elite player and talent does it.
I do think he'll (and everyone else) peak running a PR or close to it.
