Couple of thoughts: America, especially the South, loves football. So it is going to be hard for the Pels to ever be more popular than, or even as popular as, the Saints.
That being said, the same thing can be said in a lot of places. Just because the NFL is the #1 sport in town doesn't mean their can't be support for another team as well. I've lived in DC/Virginia for over a decade. For years it was pretty much all Redskins, all the time. But the the Nats add Strasburg, Harper, and an NL East winning team and the attendance numbers are up and I see Nats stuff everywhere now.
I think the same thing would happen in NOLA. The city hasn't seen enough pro sports success (one pro championship ever). If the Pels are good and have a couple of stars, the town will adopt them no doubt. Especially since there are only two pro franchises in town.
Last thought: the NFL draft tv numbers are definitely influenced by LSU just as much as the Saints. Witness Birmingham having big numbers as well. Think those are Falcons, Saints and Titans fans watching?
