NEED ADVICE- do I need to add/edit anything?
quote:
To the Editor of The Daily Reveille,
As a recent graduate of the great Louisiana State University, I am appalled that such ignorance was allow to slip through the cracks and make it into the school newspaper. This is in reference to Mr. Parker Cramer's column on the gun bill. I am one who respects each person being entitled to their own opinion. While I may not agree with an opinion, I understand it is just that - an opinion. Therefore, this e-mail is not about whether I agree with or against Mr. Cramer's opinion in his column. What does bother me is the obvious ignorance that went into writing the column.
"Federal law only requires federally licensed firearm dealers to initiate a background check on potential gun buyers. Private gun sales, like those conducted on Craigslist, at gun shows and anywhere the federal government doesn’t have a presence, don’t require a check.
Even sales conducted over the Internet require no background check at all, which not only enables dangerous criminals but also makes their firearm acquisition convenient with at-home delivery. "
The quote in bold is what I am referring to. Whether or not Mr. Cramer has done any research on the subject (I would assume he hasn't since this is such a blatant example of ignorance), there is not an avenue/company online in which you can get a gun shipped directly to your house; thus bypassing a background check. The only avenue in which can be considered online with no background check is a private sale through forums. Still, the delivery of the gun in a private sale MUST be done in person. A gun cannot legally be sent to an individual with a "convenient at-home delivery." Every single online retailer MUST ship a firearm to a licensed FFL dealer to where the individual ordering the firearm will have to go pick up. When this individual picks up the firearm from the FFL dealer, he must pass a background check for the gun to transfer from FFL to individual.
I have copied Mr. Cramer to this e-mail so he can be a little more educated on the subject matter. I wish in the future, he would do like a good journalist should do, in find out the facts before spouting off some agenda fueled column.
Regards,

You should include the fact that you have been a defacto dealer over the past couple weeks. And by chance if you have any lowers left, my cousin is comming in from offshore next week and wants to do a build.

and craigslist doesn't allow ads for firearms. It's almost like he just started writing and they published whatever ended up between the margins.
This gun thing has been the biggest display of grand-scale passionate ignorance I think I have ever seen. It's like the tiniest bits of research are just way too taxing for the progressive liberal mind.
