I don't care where Les is ranked as a coach. I do care how the Tigers do as a football team. Les is the leader and we have done some good things and screwed up some.
We have lost our last game of the year for 3 years now. We were also one of the 2 teams that beat A&M last year and outplayed Bama--but lost.
Sometimes things just have to roll your way. Lately for whatever reason Bama has been on a roll and we have been coming in second. Its not all due to Saban being better and Les being worse.
Les needs to fix his game day coaching mishaps--he needed to hire an OC and he did--I will pull for Les as long as he is a Tiger.

I'm sure its just a typo, and I like your post overall, but just ftr, LSU smoked A&M in the Cotton after 2010

Actually the game plan was the same that beat Bama in the first game, and the same plan that beat Arky at the end of the season, and the same game plan that beat UGA in the SECCG:
...and the very fact that he thought he could use the same game plan against Saban (with over a month to prepare) and have it work is utterly mind boggling! On top of that, He had NO backup plan at all, made NO adjustments, tried Nothing else, and gazed from the sidelines in a near state of catatonia!

In 2011, Alabama had more players on the All-Amercia team than LSU had on the All-SEC team. LSU only had ONE player on the preseason 1st team All-SEC team (Claiborne). The teams were not equally talented. Alabama had a massive talent advanatge, yet Miles beat Saban in Tuscaloosa.
This idea that LSU trots out these super talented teams and just tries to win without regard to coaching is absurd, given that LSU doesn't dominate the All-SEC teams.
ETA: Last year, LSU lost to Alabama on the road in the final seconds. Bama had more players on the All-SEC FIRST team (6) than LSU had on all three combined (5). LSU had three first teamers.
Hmmmm...and why do you think that is?

You mean he "botched" the 2012 regular season game vs Bama the same way Saban "botched" the regular season 2011 game?
With that in mind, what makes Saban's "botching" better? The fact that he got a do-over and made good on it?
What is fair about that, and why is Saban's expectation lower?
PS - The Bowl Game (Peach Bowl) was meaningless. Had our QB been able to complete a pass most HS QBs could complete, you'd have no reason to bitch.
Yes, skull fricking us to death in the NC game makes his botching better! You don't get to use the "do-over isn't fair" argument when you get completely humiliated by the "do-over" team.
The Bowl Game was Not meaningless...and why is it that a program like LSU, with such a stellar coach can't get a fricking QB?????????

quote:But what has he done to suggest that he can accumulate talent like Miles? I don't know how this notion that recruiting and the accumulation of talent are somehow distinguishable from coaching ever came to exist, but it is mind boggling how pervasive such a silly idea has become.
But honestly, if anyone doesn't think that a young gifted mind like Mullen who knows X and O's, can't do anything better with LSU's talent on offense than what Mile's has done. They don't know damn football.
Posted on 4/18/13 at 1:19 am to King Joey
Well, I agree, all 3 phases, recruiting, motivation of players and knowing your X and O's is all part of the coaching package. I just think Miles falls short on the third as I have maintained on here. As for Mullen I'm simply sayin he is a better X and O guy then Miles and would know what to do with the talent LSU has on offense. As for his recruiting like Miles if he was LSU's coach, well, that's completely different and I have no way of knowing if he would do as good a job as Miles. But with Cameron taking over now I give Miles credit for finally adjusting. I wish LSU all the best going forward.

Yea, I forgot about the A&M game. All in all Les gets paid a lot of money and i am sure he doesn't care about his rankings. Sometimes I think I could out coach Les, but until you do another persons job you usually don't have a clue what you are undertaking.

I just don't get how a team like LSU cannot get a decent qb!

Solid point. Especially when LSU would never have been allowed the do-over.
The double standard is astounding, really.
I hope Les stays here forever and it makes you miserable.

Les don't deserve respect. He is a terrible coach with tremendous talent.

The people bashing Miles in this thread just need to move on with their lives. He is not going anywhere.
I've never been a Les Miles fan, but there is literally no one out there that I would want to replace him. He is too entrenched in our program.

More talent than Mack Brown, Bob Stoops, Mark Richt, or Jimbo Fisher? How does that happen?

You could say the same thing about Saban when he was at LSU.
