What Would the Master Race Do? Crossfire a Nvidia 550ti or upgrade all together?

A buddy of mine built a computer a few months back. He has a 550ti graphics card in it. he wants to be able to play BF4 on it when it releases. should he upgrade the card or buy another 550ti and crossfire it.
I'm not really sure if "crossfire" is the actual term. Just now starting to learn.
We played BF3 on it on ultra settings and it seemed to run fine, however, Dice suggested that it have at least a 560ti for the ultra settings(if i'm not mistaken)

Crossfire is amd
Sli is NVIDIA
And upgrade. Don't sli. 550tis are discontinued btw
