i have had a trap out for one year and have not caught one yet. I have however caught a spike in it.

My experience is that once you get the pigs coming to an area freely, then you set the trap. That way you can get a bunch of pigs at one time. I got 12 last year at once in one pin using corn and strawberries.

The best way to lower the population is to adopt three basic rules:
1. All hogs die on sight regardless of age or circumstance
2. If only able to kill one in the group, kill the one with the biggest teets. Hopefully predatros will pick off her piglets.
3. Trapping>Dogs>rifle hunting.
Large round traps without roofs with doors designed to allow more pigs to enter after the door is triggered are the best way to go.

So buy some traps or do you make em?

Make em. And make them with a rhinoceros in mind. They climb. They dig. They run straight through shite. You aren't up against an animal here. You're up against a fricking monster that breeds like cockroaches. If you frick up that first trap, you will never get them in another one unless you get really lucky.
Look up the corral traps for hogs. Fill that fricker up with corn and stuff and leave it open. Feed em up for a week or so and let them come and go. Then go out there and set it so they can only come in but can't come out. They will pack in there.
After that time it's going to get harder but refill it with corn and set it. If you can set this up with a tree a couple feet from the outer perimeter of the pen you can set a snare there to catch the ones that are just circling but won't go in. Once you start trapping you have to check it every day though. We had some caught in ours that we didn't check for five days that died in there. Haven't been able to get a pig in a trap since then.

This thread is filled with info and lots and lots of pics.
