They stated in the preview that I saw that the unemployment rate is 1%. Even if the rest of what you said is true using this figure is just ridiculous to anyone who knows a bit about economics. It just adds to the inherent silliness of the premise. This movie will just be a generic horror/thriller genre movie imo.

Well I can see where they are coming from, think of the social impact if such a law was enacted in this day and age. Think about it.

1. The low incomes would go at each other the first year, then every subsequent year after that. The first year would be a blood bath but already you have created new jobs clean up crew and gotten rid of some of the people on government assistance.

2. New apartment complex would probably be made that protect them from the purge but not everything is fool proof so the apartment manger himself , if he a sicko would trap them in and gast them thus...more mass killing getting rid of more people.

3. Social worker that have to deal with bull crap every day or government employee that sick of their supervisor or superior would seek out their tormentor on that day and kill em.

Think of it, on the first year and day it would be a cluster frick. It would slowly go down and you will steadily see a decrease in unemployment simply because they are dead.

In the Purge universe you get the feeling from the trailer it has been going on for a while now. Ethan hawke treat it like it not a big deal so it was probably happening in his day as a kid. Now he is explaining from the tone in the movie on why the purge is a good thing and why you never unlock for anybody. Something that seem very practice and rehearsed as if it was a speak also given to him at some point in his life.

I can see it happening.

Really I just took particular issue with the figure of 1% being used. There is a simple concept of the natural rate of unemployment. Look into the concept and also how the statistics of unemployment are calculated and think about how this quoted figure doesn't make sense. It might be nitpicking, but it bothers me. And this isn't even getting into the rest of the silly premise.
