I would suspect that "gun violence" is high because guns are available. If there were no guns the story would be about rampant stick violence or knife violence. Really it is about violence and guns don't make the violence more or less common. They make the life and death stakes higher, but guns don't cause violence.

Colion Noir said it best in one of his videos. He said asked, "What is the obsession with gun violence? If you take the 'gun' out of 'gun violence' what are you left with? You still have violence."

I completely agree with him. Why not try to get rid of violence altogether instead of being obsessed with the tool used? Because it's easier and makes people 'feel good.'
