tournament is exciting and fun to watch, but it's a crappy way to determine a champion. The BCS, for all its faults, is the only system that rewards regular season accomplishment. Again, it sucked for LSU when the Bama rematch happened, but in general, if you make the NCG, you deserve to be there given what you accomplished during the year. There are no Wichita States making the NCG in football and that is a good thing.

How many D1 basketball schools are there? 340+?

I think a 64 (frick 68) team single-elimination tourney works for NCAAB.

I'm not suggesting changing it, because it's fun as hell to watch and is cool.

But just for discussion's sake here..I think the number of teams argument is nullified by the number of games. Sure there's 300 teams, but you also play 30 games. If after 30 games you're only the 68th best team in America, why should you deserve the right to play for a title?

Same with football, you've got roughly 100 teams. You play anywhere from 12-14 games. Taking into account who you played, who you beat, and who you lost to, if in December you're only the 7th or 8th best team, you don't deserve to play for a title.
