It's a wildly difficult thing to do (not under or over-hitting it), and something that is difficult to appreciate without having (or least having tried to have) done it.... Just as a really long bounce pass in basketball or hitting on to the green with beautiful backspin.

No, I don't think your average rube can appreciate it, but you could say that about many things in many sports.

Yeah, it's like it baseball when a shortstop running into the hole flips the ball with his glove to the second baseman covering. You don't appreciate how hard that is until you try it.
