This is the AR500 website. Its popular among the famous preppers on youtube.
What I dont like about the carrier is the way it attaches around your sides. Try running with that and your plates will probably beat you up. Your a big guy so it might not be so bad for you.
I dont like steel plates because of what happens when a round stikes them. The bullets break apart and pieces go everywhere. Ya, it stopped the bullet from going into your chest, but it sent it straight up into your face.
Ill pass on steel and go with ceramic.
For a carrier the tag banshee is nice, I had a Mayflower low profile. Id seriously go over to ar15.com and find a "used" carrier over there. They will say its used, but its only been used to model their badassness in the mirror and then it goes back in the closet.

Lurker comment alert:
Brother gave me a ceramic vest / get up he wore in durka durka land that was unmolested. It's not that heavy and actually fits fairly well. Hopefully I'll never need it, but it's nice to have. And yes, it sits in my closet.

Nothing wrong with ceramic plates. One thing people forget is weight. You have 35 pounds of body armor and another 60 pounds of gear, plus weapon, ammo, water and body weight all of that is fine and well if you have an apc to carry you around but when you are on your own or worse have dependents to take care of all that prepper shite people think they need turns them into a walking target. You want to survive those situations make yourself as unnoticable as possible. Come judgment day my guess is that there will be a lot of dead range ninjas around. Im just into the armor because ive regretted turning in all my TA50 ever since I left the Army.
