If you were an NFL GM, what would you give up to get Clowney?
The Redskins traded their 6th, and 2nd round pick this year and next two 1st rounders to get a 2nd overall. And he wasn't even the BPA. Clowney will drive a much higher price.

The Redskins traded for the most coveted position in the NFL, a position that you need a star at to really succeed.
The 1st and 2nd pick last season was clear cut, and both players were thought to be outstanding quarterbacks. They traded up to get a guy that brought excitement back to their franchise, and led them to the playoffs. His injuries will be the determining factor if this was a great long term move.
Clowney will be a machine, no doubt, but a great defensive player is no where near as valuable as a franchise quarterback. If I'm a GM I'd give up a 1st and 2nd to move up for him. A lot of this would depend on a teams positioning though. The Saints giving up a 1st next season to move up could end up being a very late 1st rounder the following season. From the opposite end of the spectrum, I'd accept the trade if I believed that team would give me a high 1st round pick the following season.

I don't think a team would have to give up more honestly. But, I would give up a 1st in back to back years for the guy no doubt.
I would consider throwing in a 2nd or 3rd if needed.
eta: meant to say I would add in another 2nd or 3rd in 2014 as well.
