Points, bruh. He scored points consistently against every great defense he faced. He was part of the best, most consistent offense in LSU history. When healthy, he was as much money-in-the-bank as Tommie Frazier was. You can't take that away.

you might want to look at the supporting cast around Flynn before crowning him the best.

Dumb comment of the thread right there.

Flynn was the better QB over his LSU career.
I really thought you were better than this...

You can make an argument that JaMarcus was better than Flynn in the years he was at LSU, and that Flynn got better after JaMarcus left.
You can make an argument that JaMarcus reached a level by the end of his career at LSU that Flynn could never touch.
You can make an argument that JaMarcus would have had an even better senior year than Flynn had he stayed at LSU.
What you cannot do with any kind of modicum of consistency at all, is say that an average LSU start by JaMarcus was more productive offensively than an average LSU start by Flynn. It's just obviously not true, and no argument you can make based on how awesome you think JaMarcus was, or how high he went in the draft, or how many posters you had of him on your wall, or how talented certain selected plays of his were, make any difference at all.
On average, Flynn's produced more than JaMarcus at the QB position at LSU. This really shouldn't be controversial at all.

Flynn played on a better team for sure. I'll take JR any day over him though. Which is way it took JR leaving before Flynn gotto play.

That's funny. Most of the JR was #1 fanatics on here insist that the 2006 team was the best of all time at LSU.

titles are a team stat
Titles are what you play for and when you are the starting QB and MVP of a BCSCG you are about as successful as you can get in college football.

then you're not intelligent
I'm intelligent enough to know that winning a BCS title as a starting QB and winning the MVP of that title game is more indicative of being successful than never playing in one.

It's funny you call people defending JR's career the fanatics....

They both lost 2 games in the regular season....unless your argument is Flynn magic was the reason behind Pitt knocking off WVU

2006 was the better team and JR was definitely the better player. 2007 LSU got the breaks and 2006 did not.

quote:why do you keep making it sound like Flynn won the BCSNG with no help whatsoever. That's great that he was the MVP of the game. But, you are mixing team and individual accomplishments to better support your argument.

There's the '06 Kool-Aid I've come to expect. LULZ.

Both were damn good QBs at LSU, I'm mainly arguing against the people that seem to think:
1) you have to choose one or the other
2) JR wasn't any good during his time year.
I've just never understood the venom people spew at Russell.

what Kool-Aid? Ok.. have it your way. 2007 was a better team and Flynn lost just as many games as JR did with what you think was a lesser team (and the teams he lost to were worse than the ones JR lost to and one was at home). Still doesn't change the fact that JR was an insanely better college player than Flynn

I don't think its that hard to understand...

He was often frustrating to watch because you could always tell he really didn't care very much about being at LSU, and it was sort of grating to keep hearing people call him the greatest while every single time LSU went up against one of the 3 great SEC defenses (AU, UGA, & UF) from 2004 to 2006, the offense basically underperformed all 9 times.
I was more upset at Jimbo than anyone, but still, it's just weird to me the mental gymnastics people will undergo to try to argue that what Flynn accomplished in 2005 & 2007 (scoring at least 28 points against every team he faced, a huge number of which were highly ranked) wasn't anything special, while somehow offenses that put up 3 or 10 points in big games should be given a bunch of excuses.
I admit that JaMarcus pissed me off at times from I thought was lack of effort when he was at LSU (before those last 4 games), but I've certainly got no beef with the guy anymore.
It's sort of like the way I call out all the people who say Glenn Dorsey was the best DT LSU has ever had. It's nothing personal against Dorsey. I like the guy and can't fault him for anything really. It's just retarded to think he was LSU's best DT, and yet the majority of LSU fans really seem to believe it.
