Yes, most major titles are now optimizing for more cores and threads. 4c/4t is a terrible buy now (which is why TH no longer recommends it for gaming). You either go Ryzen 6c+ or a 7700K+.

PUBG, Wolfenstein 2, Far Cry 5 are all 6+ core optimized games. Hell even 8 threads are starting to get heavily taxed these days.

Those threads do very little for gaming. It is still physical cores.

Meh...

A 7600k/GTX1080 for the purposes he outlined is more than enough imo.

Especially when you can get a 7600k now for around $200 quite frequently.

EDIT: He could also wait for the 8600k and the Coffee Lake benchmarks.
