Why in the world would any PC builder spend almost 2k on a processor?

Seriously, when would you ever fully utilize a 10 core CPU?

Not any time soon. You would most likely get less gaming performance since your per core IPC will be lower due to less OC headroom.

With high demand software specifically designed to take advantage of all those cores. Server applications (obviously), but also most Adobe software (image and video processing), as well as many other video processing applications.

But, for the most part, gaming and most mainline, daily applications for most folks not involved in video/image processing, are going to be limited to using 1 to, perhaps, 4 cores.
