Take a look at voltage too. I know there was a bug in SLI maxwells where one card's voltage was running lower than the other. The solution was to set each card's clock separately and make the lower-volting card 30Mhz lower than the higher-volting card. I still have to do that in most games.
Speaking of crashing. I was running Far Cry 4 at 4K, and I just froze/crash. First game to tell me my OCs aren't quite stable. And I guess only at 4K.
