No it's not that bad 
I was joking about the shop vac. I did a build for Christmas last year and it's been sitting on my desk. I'll think about cleaning it ever so often and in the past I used my vacuum cleaner extension like you mentioned, but didn't know if that was a no-no or if there was anything better.
I put some time into it and want to properly go about cleaning it and maintaining it.
