Yeah, and I think it will stay that way by design. Intel wanted it to be the enthusiast platform, but we "enthusiasts" knew that we could push so much out of the sandy bridge chips that there was no reason to pay a premium for the other platform. So ivy bridge got shitty TIM, as did haswell. Eventually they'll make the chips harder to delid.
