Same my fans usually stay @ 900Rpm unless I'm benching they are maxed.

Are you going D5?

Rads per block depends on several variables. Essentially, the TDP and RPM of your fans dictate the thermal resistance of individual rads, which vary in performance(degrees/watt), and all of that will determine how many degrees over ambient temp the water in your loop will be (10C or less being the goal). Fan performance becomes especially important in those thinner rads because of their high fin density.

I think Martin's Lab is the only remaining site that does extensive testing on various rads, though

No doubt fan performance is important if using the 120 per block rule. You especially need push/pull if using that rule of thumb.

The thing is almost all high performance/quality static pressure fans would do the job.

Yeah, that's why I finally got rid of all my ridiculously fast/loud fans over a year ago and switched to the gentle typhoons on the PWM fan controller. Now my pump is the loudest component. I'm excited about those alphacool rads, though, because they have among the best low-rpm performance out there, even compared to thick rads.

One day I'm going to try to do a completely silent build-- or see how much performance I can get with negligible noise. Seasonic makes some fanless PSUs in the 500w range. Building a fanless, silent HTPC would be easy though.

One reason I picked them. RAD thickness doesnt make a major difference in temps when using top of the line static pressure fans.

You can run fans at lower RPMs on thinner RADs if you have ENOUGH SURFACE AREA. I dunno why im telling you this, you already know.. just sort of re-stating in conversation.

My AX1200i's fan rarely comes on.. I mean rarely. Then when it does you can't hear it because its ONLY during benchmarks and the PSU fan is drowned out by the RAD fans on MAX RPM.

None the less the most difficult part with silent water cooled builds is shutting up that damn D5. PrimoChill or Bitspower makes an inclosure for the D5 to dampen sound. Maybe that would be worth a shot but damn it looks ugly.

Yeah that thing is super nice. Corsair makes some of the best cases IMO.

Fractal Design
Corsair Obsidian Series
Silverstone

If had to choose outside of CaseLabs it would be one of those 3.

It might.. IDK, haven't looked into it. I just know that my fan never kicks on.

You do waaaayyyy more research into all this stuff. All I educate myself on CPUs, GPUs and MOBOs.

I was joking. What I meant, is that it has your AX beat because my PSU's fan doesn't kick on whatsoever -- hence, I'm RMAing it.

Images and Benchmarks of AMD Radeon R9-290X Hawaii Leak Out

I've been lagging behind on Hawaii news, but I was under the impression that the 290X was going to be the successor to the 7990 (i.e., dual GPU), but the pics are showing a single GPU with 4GB of memory. Benchmarks are showing it ahead of the Titan and set to be priced at $599.

Your move, NVidia.

So long Titan..

To the Titan's defense... the 290X is probably clocked @ 950-1050MHz while Titans come stock @ 837-876MHz. This being said, a moddest +100 on core of the Titan should outperform the new AMD cards.

Hey i'm just trying to stick up for my Titans here.

This is great news!

This looks awesome on the Node 304. Use a piece of clear acrylic on the GPU vent. The only thing I will do different is drilling holes to allow air to circulate through. (Even thought the GPU is going under water)

I've been looking at doing that with the prodigy, but Im not familiar on how to do it. Can't imagine it being that hard

Working with acrylic is extremely simple. If you want to make custom panels with acrylic just use your Dremel for the cuts and smoothing edges. Then use glue or screws (M4 IMO) to secure acrylic to steel/aluminum.

I started putting the new Aquacomputer RES/TOP/D5 together this morning. Everything went great until I went to sleeve the wire. I have tons and tons of multiple size sleeving from MDPC..... but you know what I am missing???? HEAT SHRINK!!!!!!!

No clue where my heat shrink could be. I ripped everything apart looking for it. Only thing I could see would it being accidentally stored away inside the attic. No sure.. will have to wait for more to come in during the week.

I might be a little late on those RADs. Still havent had the time to drain my loop. Now i'm off to the future in-laws to paint.

Go to an auto parts store if you can't find your heat shrink. They have tons of it.
