Our inability to move the ball with any pace up the pitch was the reason we had zero goal-scoring chances from open play. They were committing tons forward but we went sideways and backwards enough for them to get back. The only near chance we created was with quick forward passing. There were holes to be had in the center of the pitch, but we only even attempted to exploit them once.

It's not like we committed much to it outside of 5-10 minutes. I would have been really frustrated watching Dempsey and Altidore try to do something that they were clearly not suited to do if I went into last night's game thinking that we were going to get anything out of it.

I would have given a lot for Landon Donovan and pre-car accident Charlie Davies last night. Hell, I would have loved to see Beasley pushed forward, but that was not really an option.

We had no pace on the wings until EJ came on and we had no one other than the forwards to receive the ball from Bradley in the middle.
I'm not complaining about last night, but we need someone that can take the ball from the d mids and bring it forward. Dempsey is not that guy IMO.

Exactly. I really feel like we could have scored early in the second half. Mexico were pressing high and were extremely vulnerable.

More towards the end I can understand not attacking, despite Klinsmann's lolwut subs. Our starters were exhausted.
